Love Actually

Love Actually

Love is one of those films that you either love or hate. I adore it and have watched it countless times since it came out in 2003. The film follows the lives of several British couples during the run-up to Christmas, and all their stories are somehow interconnected.

It’s a rom-com, but with a bit more depth than your typical Hollywood offering – something that’s perhaps not surprising when you consider that the writer and director is Richard Curtis, of Four Weddings and a Funeral fame.

Love is a 2003 romantic comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis and primarily filmed in London. The ensemble cast includes Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy, Rowan Atkinson, and Martine McCutcheon. The screenplay delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a wide variety of individuals:

  • An aged widower (Nighy) who develops a crush on his office clerk (McCutcheon).
  • A married man (Grant) falls for another woman (Knightley).
  • Two people are working together in an advertising agency.
  • The Prime Minister is smitten with one of his staff members.
  • An attractive schoolgirl who begins to fantasize about her older brother’s best friend.
  • Several other couples.

Many reviewers praised Love Actually for its comedic elements and performances, while others criticized it for being too sentimental. However, the film was generally well-received by audiences and grossed over $247 million worldwide.

Love Actually Trailer

Love is a 2003 British romantic comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis. It features an ensemble cast, many of whom had worked with Curtis in previous film and television projects. The screenplay delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a widower (played by Grant), an office worker (played by Thompson), two married people (one played by Lincoln, the other by Blunt), and various single people.

Most of the film was filmed on location in London. The trailer opens with various clips of couples embracing, followed by a voiceover from Hugh Grant’s character, Prime Minister David, who says, “Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere.” This is intercut with shots of different characters going about their lives; one man is shown buying jewelry, another kissing his wife goodbye as he goes to work, etc.

As the voiceover continues, we see more clips of couples embracing and being happy together, followed by footage of David walking through 10 Downing Street with his new secretary Natalie (played by Thompson). He tells her, “I’m sorry for lying to you,” to which she replies, “That’s okay because I’m falling in love with you.”

The Love Actually Actress Dies.

British actress Emma Chambers, best known for her role as the ditzy Honey Thacker in “Love Actually,” died at the age of 53. Chambers had been suffering from complications relating to heart failure and passed away on Wednesday night, her agent John Grant said in a statement. “Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work. She brought laughter and joy to many and will be greatly missed,” Grant said.

Chambers made her acting debut in 1987 with a small role in the British sitcom “The Young Ones” before going on to star in numerous other TV shows and movies, including “Notting Hill” and “Vanity Fair.” But her role as Hugh Grant’s love interest Honey Thacker in 2003’s “Love Actually” earned her widespread recognition. In the film, Chambers’ character famously tells Grant’s character Prime Minister David Cameron, that she loves him during his office Christmas party speech.

It’s been 15 years since Love was released, and the cast has changed significantly in that time! Let’s take a look at what the actors who played our favorite characters are up to now. Andrew Lincoln, who played Mark, is now best known for his role as Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead.

He’s also done some directing and most recently starred in the UK comedy-drama series This Life. Keira Knightley, who played Juliet, has had a successful career in Hollywood. She’s starred in blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean and Oscar-winning films like Pride & Prejudice and The Imitation Game.

His recent credits include Florence Foster Jenkins and Paddington 2.

He’ll next be seen alongside Meryl Streep in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of Ready Player One. Emma Thompson portrayed Karen opposite her real-life husband, Alan Rickman (who sadly passed away last year).
